Self-Nurturing

I'm working on an educational piece for fellow nurses and support staff on the importance of self-nurturing. So, I've been doing some reflecting on exactly what I do to take care of myself, when I'm not taking care, in some way, of someone else.

My current self-indulgences include, in no particular order:
  • Seasonal tickets to Pennsylvania Ballet (my first year of subscription tickets, and I must say I feel truly indulged when I go!)
  • Visits to Longwood Gardens (again, a yearly subscription)
  • Cupcake Wines (OK, it's cheap and wine could arguably be considered a necessity, but Cupcake is a relatively new discovery of mine, so it earns a spot on my list)
  • Playing the Smurf game on my iPad (I can't believe I'm actually admitting this one)
  • Working on my Masters of Nursing (it's a lot of work, but I really do enjoy it)
There's probably something I've missed, but these are the big ones. In devising this presentation, I'm being reminded that if we don't take care of ourself, we have nothing to give to others.

I'm a forty-something wife, homeschooling mom and Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse who is currently working on her Masters in Nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I'm a published freelance writer and founded a national volunteer organization. I sometimes dream of being discovered by someone who desires to pay me $1 per word, wish I had the ambition to exercise daily, and despise cleaning out the fridge.
