Hamster Wheel

In my fabulously wonderful grad program, I'm currently studying pharmacology. Love the class. In it, you learn all about drug classes, how to choose the proper drug, potential adverse effects, necessary patient education, etc. A very intense class that truly does stretch your brain.

When reflecting on all I've studied in the past 6 years since I started nursing school, I'm struck by the irony I see. How can it be that I can advise someone on health issues, including something as important as medications, yet I cannot get my own exercise and diet in order?

More pressure is on to achieve this goal, as my oldest daughter will be getting married in about a year and a half. Which means professional photography. Which means having to see myself in such photos. Which means seeing my physical self as the world sees me. Which means, in order to spare me much pain, I must lose weight before this wedding.

As if I weren't busy enough, I jumped at the chance to become involved with our community college's first annual 5K in the spring. Joining weight loss programs and websites apparently haven't solved the problem, so perhaps taking on yet another project will.

I continue to run on this weight loss hamster wheel, hoping that one of these days, I'll jump off, about 20 pounds lighter.

I'm a forty-something wife, homeschooling mom and Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse who is currently working on her Masters in Nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I'm a published freelance writer and founded a national volunteer organization. I sometimes dream of being discovered by someone who desires to pay me $1 per word, wish I had the ambition to exercise daily, and despise cleaning out the fridge.
